Stop the transfer: how to avoid property scams in Kuwait
Property scams start with a good price and a push for speed, not a threat. These signs are reason enough to hold the transfer until the papers match.
Most rental and sale scams follow one pattern: a below-market price, lovely photos, then pressure to send a deposit quickly "because other buyers are waiting". When speed meets an incomplete document, stop.
Warning signs
- A price far below three similar listings in the same area.
- Refusing a viewing because of travel or being busy.
- Asking you to transfer to an account that doesn't match the owner or office.
- The advertiser's name differs from the name on the deed.
- A cropped photo of the deed that hides restrictions or a mortgage.
How to verify
Compare three similar listings on Mr Aqar. Ask for the original deed and match the Civil ID number. Use the verified contact buttons inside the listing, and deal with offices that have a clear page and up-to-date listings.
If in doubt
Clean deals can take questions. Hold the transfer, ask to meet on site, and report to the relevant authority if needed. You can also report a suspicious listing with the "Report listing" button on its page.

Frequently asked questions
Is a deposit refundable?
It depends on the agreement's wording. Know when it is and isn't refunded before paying — and put it in writing.
Does using an office remove the risk?
It reduces it, it doesn't remove it. Check the deed every time.
