Before you rent an apartment in Kuwait: a quick checklist

A few simple steps that save time and money before you sign a lease — from viewing the flat to checking who you are dealing with.

A lease usually runs a year or more, so a careful viewing and a few checks are worth the time. Use this list so you don't miss the basics.

View the apartment yourself

  • Run the taps and check water pressure and hot water.
  • Switch on the AC in every room.
  • Look for damp around windows and in bathrooms.
  • Ask about parking, the lift and the building guard.

Check the advertiser

Use the verified contact buttons on the listing and ask to see proof of ownership or the office's authorisation. Don't pay a deposit before viewing.

Read the contract

  • Length of the lease and renewal terms.
  • The deposit amount and when it is returned.
  • Who pays for maintenance and bills.

Search Mr Aqar by area and property type, and compare several listings before you decide.
